International Thermal Spray Event to be Held in Las Vegas Next Week...

The International Thermal Spray Conference 's38; Exposition (ITSC 2009) event will go on next week as planned. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has not limited travel to the U.S. and recommends sensible health precautions for those who will be traveling to the U.S.

's8220;We look forward to welcoming our colleagues from throughout the world to ITSC,'s8221; said Mitch Dorfman, Sulzer Metco (US), general co-chair for the event.

According to the CDC, swine influenza A (H1N1) should not discourage people from traveling to or within the United States. Travelers, like all citizens, should heed the advice of experts when determining how best to manage health concerns.

ITSC organizers will take precautions to protect public health, and encourage attendees to practice healthy habits, including frequent hand-washing. Information about the influenza situation is available from the US CDC and the World Health Organization. ITSC organizers continue to closely monitor the situation.

ITSC will be held May 4-7 at the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel. The event is organized by ASM Thermal Spray Society (TSS), the German Welding Society (DVS) and the International Institute of Welding (IIW). The ITSC 2009 theme, 's8220;Expanding Thermal Spray Performance to New Markets and Applications,'s8221; reaches beyond the core of the thermal spray community 's8211; the researchers, applicators and suppliers already using the technology 's8211; with presentations focused on bringing the advantages of thermal spray technology to new applications.

Experts from the major thermal spray markets in America, Europe, and Asia will set the tone for the entire ITSC event. In addition to advances in aerospace and power generation, ITSC presenters will cover new applications for microelectronics and semiconductors, in addition to biomedical applications. 's8220;Our technical focus has expanded beyond the traditional to bring new participants to our event,'s8221; Dorfman said.

To serve its global audience, the host city for ITSC rotates from North America to the Pacific Rim to Europe. 's8220;We look forward to a tremendous event in Las Vegas,'s8221; said general co-chair Peter Heinrich of Linde AG.

An important part of the ITSC experience is the ITSC Exposition, the largest annual gathering of companies that provide equipment, materials, products and services to the thermal spray community. The exposition will be held over three days, May 4-6.

The thermal spray coating process provides a functional surface to protect or improve the performance of an affordable substrate or component. Thermal spraying is used in many industries, including aerospace and power generation, to provide cost-effective protection against corrosion, wear and abrasion, as well as to restore and repair components. The total size of the global thermal spray industry is estimated at $2.7 billion annually.
