Innovative solutions provider Kelsius has been chosen by the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust to implement its market leading wireless temperature monitoring (http://www.kelsius.com/health_overview.php) solution. Kelsius, with headquarters in Belfast, will implement its adaptable Wireless to Web solution to monitor the pharmacy fridges and medicine fridges in clinical areas across the 3 acute hospital sites in the Trust.
The system will also be installed in the vaccine fridges (http://www.kelsius.com/health_solution.php) in 19 Primary Care locations
in the North Down and Ards sector of the Trust. The Trust employs around 10,000 staff and serves a population of over 440,000. As one of the 5 Trusts created in 2007, the South Eastern
HSC Trust is committed to delivering services that will make demonstrable improvements in the health and well being of the population. Kelsius believes that the implementation of its
solution will be a significant contributor towards the achievement of the Trust'ss corporate goals.
The Kelsius (http://www.kelsius.com/about.php) system is paperless, automated, and uses wireless sensors to regularly check the temperature
of the fridges where vital and valuable medicines, such as vaccines, erythropoietin and chemotherapy are stored under controlled temperature. Temperature deviations from set parameters
will trigger alerts on site by audiovisual alarm, backed up by text messages and emails to key staff members. Authorised personnel can easily access the information at any time, from
anywhere, via the Internet.
The Trust will be able to develop an archive of historical temperature data and corrective actions to form an audit trail. Kelsius will also provide portable temperature loggers (http://www.kelsius.com/health_overview.php), which can be used for monitoring temperature-sensitive products such as vaccines during
transit to primary care locations, thereby providing full traceability along the distribution cold chain.
By selecting Kelsius, the South Eastern HSC Trust will be able to minimise product losses, ensure the cold chain (http://www.kelsius.com/health_demo.php) is maintained, replace manual logging and paper based procedures, and facilitate staff to focus on
patient care. Les Curran, Chief Executive of Kelsius, said, This is a fantastic and very important local win for Kelsius. We are delighted to be in partnership with a very patient focused
organisation such as the South Eastern HSC Trust, which can be assured that the storage of all temperature sensitive medicines will now be monitored by our leading edge technology.
Head of Pharmacy and Medicines Management for the Trust, Jill Macintyre, commented, Our Corporate Plan states that we should strive to provide high quality care and treatment which is
safe and effective. I believe that by implementing the Kelsius solution, we are taking positive steps towards that goal.
