Medical Waste Firm Sanitec Industries Acquires North State Specialty...

#8212; Emission-free healthcare waste processor Sanitec Industries, Inc. (www.sanitecindustries.com) marked a major milestone in their West Coast expansion with its acquisition of North State Specialty Waste, Inc. Sanitec plans to convert the Red Bluff, CA, medical waste processor to their patented Sanitec® Microwave Healthcare Waste Disinfection System's8482;. North State currently collects and processes infectious waste from more than 500 customers including the State of California and numerous municipalities.

's8220;We are excited about our acquisition of North State Specialty Waste,'s8221; said Jim Harkess, President of Sanitec Industries, Inc. 's8220;This is an important step forward for our company and our commitment to providing zero-emission healthcare waste disposal services for the people of California,'s8221; Harkess said. Sanitec will continue to service North State's8217;s customers, and will do continue to do business as North State Specialty Waste, Inc.

Unlike incineration and autoclaves, which merely transform biohazard material into other dangerous waste products including dioxin, Sanitec systems are self-contained disposal units that utilize a microwave disinfection system that eliminates bacterial and viral pathogens.

Sanitec is approved for treatment and disposal of all types of healthcare waste in California and certified for disposal in any municipal landfill without any further permitting. Most other disposal processes involve transporting highly pathogenic waste on public roads to off-site processing facilities. The system has recently been approved by the state of California to also process pathological waste. The US EPA and California Department of Health recently endorsed Sanitec for the disposal of bird carcasses in the event of an Avian Flu outbreak.

In addition to being certified zero emission, 's8220;Sanitec's8217;s system significantly reduces the environmental impact of healthcare waste by reducing the volume of the landfill-bound material by up to 80 percent,'s8221; said Harkess. 's8220;This means far fewer diesel burning bio-waste laden tractor trailers on our roads and lower disposal costs for healthcare providers,'s8221; Harkess said.
