#8211; Tod Thoring, N.D., talks about the importance of recognizing the role of stress in Lyme disease in an interview with researchers at the Lyme Disease Research Database (LDRD). Dr. Thoring operates the Pacific Natural Medicine and Skin Care Centre in Arroyo Grande, California. As a family practice doctor, he often sees patients with Lyme. He counsels patients about the importance of recognizing the role of stress in their states of health, suggesting several different ways to reduce and eliminate it.

's8220;Stress is like a sleeping giant,'s8221; says Dr. Thoring. 's8220;It suppresses the immune system and allows any latent or dormant disease to proliferate.'s8221; A stressful life situation, he explains, can wake the sleeping giant. He says many people experience their first LD symptoms following a stressful life change. Lyme Disease sufferers in his region have encountered the prevailing belief in the local medical community that LD is uncommon in California.

The LDRD interview series's purpose is to deliver expert findings directly to Lyme sufferers about the latest discoveries in Lyme research, including news about symptoms, diagnoses and treatment. Researchers present a broad range of health perspectives, from conventional, alternative and integral therapies. In other interviews included in the series, doctors discuss physician education about the prevalence of Lyme disease; a filmmaker tells about his upcoming documentary film about LD; and listeners learn about a newly-patented, more reliable test for diagnosing the disease.
