Herbert Sloan Celebrates A Lifetime of Achievement



Few men have lived such vibrant and full lives as Dr. Herbert Sloan. In his ninety four years, Mr. Sloan has held men'ss hearts in his hands and brought them back from the brink of the abyss. Because of this, Madison Who'ss Who salutes Mr. Herbert Sloan as a true leader and pioneer in the field of medicine, and truly a notable member of our society.

Dr. Sloan began his residency many years ago in 1940 at John Hopkins. From that point, his medical career has spanned longer then many men'ss lives; thus far he has served the sick and infirm for almost sixty-eight years. He has performed numerous lifesaving procedures, and has worked in the roll of instructor at the University of Michigan since 1949. Dr. Sloan had a leading roll in the development of University Hospital at U-Mich, and is now serving as Professor Emeritus.

In his time as an academic at the University of Michigan, Mr. Sloan has published more than one hundred and fifty journal articles, two books, and fourteen book chapters. He has received numerous awards for excellence in medicine and specifically thoracic surgery, including several lifetime achievement awards.

In his leisure, Dr. Herbert Sloan spends his time with his extensive family who care deeply for him.
