Even before the Sumame in the Mediteranean or the Increase in Hurricanes in Hurricane alley all around Florida, Texas, Louisianna, and The Southeast coastline along the Carolinas, Belize was showing a marked increase in Tourism, Speculative Development, and Imigration.
Why is that you say Cough!!! Well let me tell you. First of all, it´s the ONLY Country in South America that the official language is English. The Belize exchange is two to one. Land and beachfront is still inexpensive. The Barrier Reef passes off the coast so many divers and snorkellers are attracted to the region.. An Island can still be purchessed for under a million.. Gambeling is legal although getting a licence is not automatic.. Offshore Banking is as good as anywhere else in the World and many have opted to get an IBC, (International Bank Account) with attatched Merchant credit accounts. These, by the way, have many advantages worth looking into. Not a complicated process but should be handled by an experienced agent.
Primarily the Tourism Trade is fueling the growth, but don´t discount the many other areas of interest. Agriculture, Farming Hardwoods, Seafood, Handcrafted arts and the Retirement Industry.
Belize is prime for Outsourcing for Corporations as literacy is high and the people eager to learn. The mix that is Belizean is mostly Mayans, Garifunas, Latins, Creol, and German Menonites. The job market is large and the minimum wage is about 170.00 US a week. Internet access is everywhere and Cell phones too.
It´s still so early in the Country´s development that many opportunities are still available.
It´s recomended you use local Consultants for any Investments of any size. San Pedro Town on Isla Bonita / Ambergris Caye is the face of Belize for most Visitors as it´s the main Jumping off point for Diving has the most Resorts and is close to the Reef. There you would ride a Golfcart, bike, or boat to get around although the local taxis are minivans.
Already the Town of San Pedro is showing signs of traffic and solving that issue will not be simple if more and more vehicles are brought in as the Town formed in an organic manor with many of the older families homes mixed in with the Commercial businesses. Charming in many ways but difficult for planning as who knew the kind of growth to come And it´s still just beginning. Corozol, San Ignacio, Punta Gorda, and Cayo are also growing.
My name is Jonathan Mullen and I relocated here from Los Angeles after coming as a consultant several years ago. Since moving here I have come to know and Love the People of belize and hope to be of some use in keeping the beauty and simplicity of the lifestyle here if I can. So by all means Come one and all but know that what we love about this country can be ruined if common sense and restraint isn´t practiced.
