The Arabic version of the 's8216;The Hijacked Caravan's8217;, the landmark study into suicide bombing in Islam, will be released later this year, said Islamic think tank Ihsanic
Intelligence (I-I) on Friday, the anniversary of the July 7 suicide bombings in London.
The think-tank said the original version of the first policy document unequivocally condemning suicide bombing in Islam had attracted the acclaim and attention of Western and Islamic
governments as well as ordinary Muslim and non-Muslims the world over 's8211; many of whom had explicitly changed their views on suicide bombings after reading it.
's8220;The original version of 's8216;The Hijacked Caravan's8217; alhamdlillah (Praise be to God) succeeded in its aim of being advocated as policy at transnational governmental level, as
well as being cited by Muslims and non-Muslims globally,'s8221; said I-I Media Co-ordinator, Hasna Fateh.
's8216;The Arabic version will be titled 's8216;al-Qafila al-Mukhtafa's8217; and inshallah (God-willing) aims to help many Arab Muslims determine, with prime evidences, that these acts
would have been condemned by Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.'s8221;
Titled 's8216;The Hijacked Caravan: Refuting Suicide Bombings as Martyrdom Operations in Contemporary Jihad Strategy,'s8217; the study systematically analyses literature used to recruit
Muslims to become potential suicide bombers, by primarily refuting the Islamic evidences used in their favour with greater evidences from fourteen centuries of the Islamic legal tradition
to refute any notion of suicide bombings as being 's8220;Islamic.'s8221;
The think-tank's8217;s study concludes in a landmark political statement which has been cited internationally: 's8220;The technique of suicide bombing is anathema, antithetical and
abhorrent to Sunni Islam. It is considered legally forbidden, constituting a reprehensible innovation in the Islamic tradition, morally an enormity of sin combining suicide and murder and
theologically an act which has consequences of eternal damnation.'s8221;
On February 27, 2006, Australia's8217;s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Alexander Downer on February 27, 2006 cited the resolution in its entirety at an international security conference in
Indonesia, the world's8217;s most populated Muslim country, with the Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in attendance.
The minister hailed Ihsanic Intelligence and the Islamic scholars, academics researchers and analysts who helped to create the study and its landmark ruling as 's8220;comprising some of
the best Islamic legal minds in the world's8221; in his speech to the Indonesia Crime Prevention Foundation (ICPF) at the 's8220;Seminar on International Cooperation Against Terrorism,
Focus on Suicide Bombing as a Symptom of Terrorism.'s8221;
In June 2006, academics at Harvard University's8217;s Islam in the West Program confirmed that Ihsanic Intelligence's8217;s landmark ruling would be published in 's8216;The Encyclopedia
of Islam in America's8217; in December 2006, with the complete inclusion of Condemnations of Suicide Bombings by Muslims, an I-I supplement to 's8216;The Hijacked Caravan's8217;.
Major Muslim and non-Muslim academics also praised and cited the study. American commentator on the Middle East, Daniel Pipes, cited the report on his website the day after its
publication and will also in a forthcoming book on the region co-written with academic Sharon Chadha. Professor Neal Robinson, the Muslim academic whose book 's8216;Discovering the
Qur's8217;an's8217; is a primer for Qur's8217;anic studies at elite Western universities, congratulated the think-tank on its comprehensive and thorough refutation of suicide
bombings.
Muslim and non-Muslim members of the public have also acclaimed the study. Administrator of www.LivingIslam.org Omar Neusser in Sweden described
the study as excellent and soon after its release published an html version whilst blogger Sasa in Syria cited the study after suicide bombings in Jordan in November 2005.
In her blog 's8216;The kitchen drawer's8217;, British commentator Sue linked the report and said 's8220;there's8217;s a report on the web which I think everybody ought to try and
read's8221; whilst Mike on a Google Group said 's8220;The study has recognised a serious problem and threat to Islam in the UK, which is seemingly of little concern to you, and its
authors have attempted to find a way forward. In that way, be it 's8220;intellectually incompetent's8221; in your eyes, or propaganda, it is at least evidence that these people have
recognised the problem and are trying to do something about it.'s8221;
Criticism and suspicion of the study was also rife, primarily from those concerned about the implications of its findings. Remarks from commentators included 's8220;Does anyone else smell
a rat, or the Rand Corporation for that matter's8221;, 's8220;Before passing fatwas on Islam, give us your credibility's8221; and 's8220;I feel rather that there is an attempt by your
organisation and others to attempt to create a consensus of the masses and thus attempt to marginalise legitimate scholarly difference.'s8221;
