Book On Martin Luther King And Abraham Joshua Heschel Is Prestigious...



An illustrated children'ss book that traces the lives and friendship of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel is the 2009 Gold Medal winner of an award for Jewish children'ss literature.



As Good As Anybody, by Richard Michelson, and illustrated by Raul Colon, the winner of the Sydney Taylor Award for Young Readers, tells the story of how the two religious civil rights leaders, a Jewish Rabbi and an African-American Minister from different backgrounds came together to fight against prejudice.



This is the first time in the award'ss 41-year history that one author, Richard Michelson, won the main book award as well as winning an honor award for his young readers picture book, A is for Abraham, illustrated by Ron Mazellan, according to Kathe Pinchuck.chair of the Association of Jewish Libraries'ss award committee.



The Sydney Taylor Awards, named after the popular author of the beloved All-Of-A-Kind-Family series, is among the most coveted awards for writers and illustrators of Jewish children'ss literature. Issac Bashevis Singer was the first award recipient.



Michelson has written numerous children'ss books, including Too Young for Yiddish, and Tuttle'ss Red Barn, which was selected by Publishers Weekly as a Best Children'ss Book of 2007. Across the Alley about Jewish Abe and African-American Willie who are best friends, but only secretly at night, through the windows of their city apartment buildings was a 2006 National Jewish Book Award finalist
