Leading Israeli car hire company CarRentalIsrael reported this week record car rental bookings for Passover and Independence Day Holidays. After a slow end to 2007, bookings have risen to pass all previous records said Ophir Cohen, online marketing director of Car Rental Israel (http://www.carrentalisrael.com).
The sometimes turbulent political climate in Israel often leaves tourist industry paying the price of instability in the region, with flight, hotel and general holiday bookings dropping.
However this year has seen optimism for the a peaceful future combined with Israel celebrating its 60th Year as an Independent State. Yom Haatzmaut this year is celebrated on May 10th and
already hotel groups are reporting full occupancy in the week leading up to and after the celebrations.
This rise in holiday bookings has led to a knock on effect in reservations for car rental throughout the country as tourists take the opportunity to take time to travel the country and
visit some of the world's oldest and most awe inspiring archaeological sites.Tourist centers such as Jerusalem offer a wealth of tourist centers, though visitors can now make use of the
modern road systems to drive to Tel Aviv within an hour or to the north within two.
Another significant change in tourist patterns are the 'multi-center' holidays, for those travelers who for example, opt to spend some time in Jerusalem before using their car rental to
drive to Eilat for a few days by the sea.
Ophir Cohen (who runs the Car Rental Israel service through Compucall Web Marketing (http://www.compucall-usa.com) as joint venture with Hi-Net
and Avis Israel (http://www.carrentalisrael.com)), commented '' the first quarter of 2008 has seen not only record numbers of car rental
bookings, but also the longest in advance. In March alone we saw over 7000 visitors to our website brining over 350 online car rental bookings. In previous years we would see most
customers booking only a few weeks before arrival, though the trend this year is to plan ahead, as such we have a full rental book 3 months in advance!"
Car rentals and generals holiday bookings have been rising steadily over the last 6 months and are set to continue rising with the Israeli Governments 'Open Skies' policy, a recent legal
reform with the intention of encouraging more flight carriers to begin operations to Israel. In 2004 the new state of the art terminal was opened without a hitch at Ben Gurion Airport.
Since opening a number of airlines have extended their routes to Israel. From November 2007 in addition to the national carrier ElAl, low cost airline ThomsonFly began flights from the
UK, and last month saw BMI also add Israel to its list of destination countries accessible from the UK. ElAl flights to Israel (http://www.elal.co.il)
have seen a significant rise in bookings and profitability since the combined opening of the new terminal and its recent launch of a new customer focused online booking system.
Competition in the airline industry is fueling the tourist market here in Israel. In turn projects such Car Rental Israel (Car Rentals from Avis Israel (http://www.carrentalisrael.com)) are looking forward to a bumper future of car rental bookings.
