Mingoville and U.S. English Team Up to Teach Americans English



U.S. towns and counties are declaring English their official language. Many U.S. states have either declared English as their official language, or have legislation currently being considered. Regardless of one's feelings about the official language status of English in the United States, there are obvious benefits to improving English language skills, including greater educational and job opportunities later in life when kids learn English fluently. The most recent U.S. census data shows that many Americans aren't taking advantage of those opportunities with nearly 55 million Americans over the age of five not speaking English at home, and over 24 million Americans having only limited English proficiency.

The U.S. English Foundation (http://www.usefoundation.org/foundation/), a non-partisan organization devoted to English language education, has partnered with Mingoville (http://www.mingoville.com), an English language e-learning platform, to offer free online English language courses for Americans. The courses can be used to teach kids English at a young age, as well as teaching English as a second language to adult immigrants from a wide variety of countries and primary languages.

"It is often the difference between being independent and relying on help from others, between a dependable income and inconsistent employment, between sending a child to college and continuing the cycle of poverty. Mingoville's online English language program is completely free, with programs accessible from any computer with an Internet connection.
