Alvaka Networks' Executive Vice President, Kevin McDonald, joins AeA National Board of Directors. AeA (formerly American Electronics Association) is America's largest trade association representing the high-tech Industry. McDonald will also serve on the Board's Technology Policy Committee and as Vice Chairman of the Orange County & Inland Empire Council's Executive Committee.
McDonald shall remain as Chairman of Government Affairs for The Orange County and Inland Empire Council into 2009 and will now have more influence over key local, state and federal public
policy issues. His placement on the Technology Policy Committee better positions him to support and promote the global acceleration and deployment of advanced technology. The committee is
also tasked with helping to ensure that legal and regulatory structures reflect changes in technology and market conditions. As part of his role, McDonald will regularly travel to
Washington DC and the California state capital, where he will work to help frame the debates and influence key decisions on Technology related issues.
California high-tech employment represents nearly one-sixth of the nation's reported 5.94 million tech jobs. The next closest US state in numbers of high-tech workers is Texas with less
than half those of California. The average California tech worker earns more than $95,000 annually, nearly 109% more than the average private sector employee." The health and
competitiveness of the high-tech industry is fundamental to the economies of California and our nation," said, Kevin McDonald. "If we are going to compete on the international stage, it
is absolutely critical that our executive, legislative and regulatory representatives are keenly aware of our interests and concerns. They must be aware of the immense benefits that the
tech industry brings to every region that we call home." He continued. McDonald will no doubt have a voice in the debates over issues of privacy, security, child safety, international
competitiveness, taxation, e-waste and others that will help to define our economic future.
A tireless cyber security and internet safety advocate and author of the fiction novel, Practically Invisible, McDonald constantly works to balance his advocacy for the interests of the
high-tech industry with a nearly fifteen year mission to protect America's children and families from predators. His uniquely balanced approach has made him a sought after expert in the
often heated debate over issues of mandates on internet content, privacy, identity theft and strategies to stop sexual predators that would use technology to prey on our children. Earlier
this year, McDonald was unanimously elected the Board of Directors for Web Wise Kids, a national not-for-profit dedicated to educating our youth and parents about Internet safety.
McDonald was later elected as their National Chairman of Government Affairs. This combined with his association at AeA and his role as a senior executive at Alvaka Networks makes for a
powerful set of relationships and avenues for positive change.
"With the 2008 presidential elections coming, we are facing a critical time. Having Kevin in our camp will be invaluable. As the makeup of our state and national legislatures goes through
significant change, Kevin will be instrumental in educating people on the issues that matter to our industry," said Charlie Sundling. Sundling, who is the CEO of Pipeline Group, Inc., and
the new Chairman of The Orange County & Inland Empire Executive Committee, views McDonald as an important ally in his council leadership role. They will work closely on many of the
key issues that arise during their leadership terms. Many have said that they represent a new energy and fresh vision for the future of AeA and the technology industry as a whole.
