Throughout the month of September, 39 Santa Fe High School students worked as a team to outscore schools from 48 other states and won the National Internet Challenge. The Santa Fe team
won by logging on to the Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation website (www.cksf.org) and took a series of quizzes based on both academic and common knowledge.
Through a combination of accuracy and time Santa Fe High School claimed the National Internet Trophy and secured their place in the April Grand National competition.
The program, which starts over every month, is open to every high school student in the United States. A school becomes registered when the first student competes with the Common
Knowledge Scholarship Foundation. Students simply log on and take a series of short multiple-choice quizzes to help build their school's8217;s team score. The school's8217;s score is
calculated by adding up the top twenty scores. Because the question topics vary each month, different students end up in the top twenty for each quiz.
The first two weeks of each month make up the qualifying round. During this round schools compete to represent their state in the National Challenge during week four. The National
Challenge sees the top scoring school from each state compete for a trophy and a place in the Grand National competition in April. The top individual scorer each month receives a cash
scholarship which may be used at the post secondary school of his or her choice.
There is no software to buy, quizzes take less than 15 minutes to complete and are available 24 hours a day six days a week. 's8220;The program allows every student to belong to their
school'ss team,'s8221; says Daryl Hulce, the Foundation President. 's8220;No one can get cut from this team and because every point counts, even the lowest scoring student helps build the
school's8217;s score.'s8221;
The program is administered by the Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation, part of the Fischler School of Education at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The Common
Knowledge Scholarship Foundation offers a variety of scholarship opportunities in which each participant has a fair and equal chance at winning money for higher education.
