Pursuit of Power Corrodes Unity ClintonCheney Comments Divisive

In a statement, from his Danville, California office, Terry D, Turchie, former FBI counterterrorism Unit Director, called for Presidential candidates to put national security above the pursuit of power by rejecting political positions that encourage divisiveness.

"Terrorism is the most critical issue of the day and it is very easy to arouse the fears of the people by using it as a wedge to gain power. Unity is critical in the most ambiguous war our nation has ever faced," said Turchie. "It is being used now by Democratic Senator Hillary Clinton as it was used four years ago by Republican Vice President Cheney during the 2004 Presidential election when he said 'if we make the wrong decision, then the danger is we'll get hit again.'"

"Senator Clinton's comment that 'if certain things happen between now and the election, particularly with respect to terrorism, that will automatically give the Republicans an advantage again,' reflected a total disregard for the need for national unity in the terror war against extremist Islamic fundamentalists. Terrorism is a deadly serious business and all politicians should be more sensitive to the critical need our nation has for unity. A nation needs unity and resolve to conduct a war successfully, not fear and division."

Terry D Turchie is one of the very few terror experts who has actually pursued and captured terrorists. Among his exploits were the pursuit of Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan before 9/11 and directing the FBI Unit that finally captured Ted Kaczynski, the Unabomber, in Montana.

Terry D. Turchie is retiring from public service and turning his full attention to writing. "Hunting The American Terrorist," a book he co-authored with former FBI clinical psychologist Dr. Kathleen Puckett, is an "inside" look at how the FBI deals with homegrown terror. Their forthcoming book, "Homeland Insecurity," deals with fifteen Washington politicians who have compromised national security for political power. It is due out in May, 2008.
