The company's primary activities, development and manufacturing of medical therapies, generate a lot of documentation that is subject to regulatory audit and review.

Much of the critical documentation is in electronic form, though a significant portion is, and will remain, paper-based. The company had previously implemented Documentum to manage the electronic documents, but needed to solve the location tracking, audit and legal retention issues related to their paper documents.

FileTrail was selected as the solution by Abgenix after an extensive review of alternatives. The primary advantages that FileTrail offered were 1) faster implementation, 2) greater flexibility without development, 3) expertise, and 4) lower cost.

FileTrail's powerful configuration tools allow each of 26 internal groups to describe records their way. The tools are point-and-click - thus, no programming resources were needed for configuration. This also allowed faster implementation and roll-out to staff in all departments.
