Los Angeles Lawyers to Honor Noted Civil Rights Attorney Frankie Muse Freeman
In recognition of her outstanding public service, various regional bar associations will be honoring author Frankie Muse Freeman, Esq., a former member of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, in a ceremony 4:30 p.m., August 27, 2005 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel, 333 Universal Hollywood Drive, Universal City, CA.
Freeman will hold a book signing of her poignant autobiography, "A Song of Faith and Hope: The Life of Frankie Muse Freeman," immediately after the awards ceremony, in the DST Media Room.
Among Freeman's many contributions are her 1964-1980 tenure as the first woman to serve on the Commission on Civil Rights, as Inspector General of the Community Services Administration under President Carter and as president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., from 1967 to 1971.
Freeman, a graduate of Hampton University and Howard University School of Law, currently serves as counsel at Montgomery Hollie & Associates in St. Louis, MO.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is a private, nonprofit organization whose purpose is to provide services and programs to promote human welfare.
The Sorority currently has more 200, 000 members in 900-plus chapters located in the United States, Japan, Germany, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Korea and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
