A boycott of Chinese WHO nominee and Chinese goods and services has been called for by Cornelius Robertson a Bird Flu news analyst who has been tracking the spread of the H5N1 virus and
ways to fight it.
China has still not shared virus samples from bird flu as promised months ago, hindering global efforts to develop an effective vaccine. Robertson says. By not sharing the samples China
is putting its own interests ahead of global health and risking the lives of millions of humans. We have to do something to make the Chinese officials take note of this fact therefore we
are organizing a Boycott.
To make effective vaccines and drugs, you need live viruses. By sharing the virus samples, it could help develop a vaccine more quickly. China has information that could potentially save
millions of children'ss lives. H5N1, if contacted by a human is especially deadly in the young.
Robertson continues, In response to Chinese lack of cooperation on the issue of H5N1 sample sharing and the imminent danger it poses, we are calling on the world community to raise this
issue to the forefront. Everyday people can make a difference in Chinese government officials behavior. Apparently China doesn'st care.
China did not provide any samples last year. Most other countries, have shared virus samples for the benefit of global healt concerns. Officials from the agriculture ministry at a recent
news conference did not say whether they planned to share any samples, Again China has backed off its pervious promises and commitments made on H5N1. Robertson states. China has been
criticized by the world for its handling of reports in the SARS outbreak.
In an another development out of China, Margaret Chan, a former Hong Kong health official and nominated by the Chinese government to run for the Director-General of the World Health
Organization (WHO), released her election manifesto Tuesday, pledging to strengthen the role of WTO in fighting diseases if elected.
China talks the talk but does not walk the walk. That is why we are beginning the Boycott effective immediately. All consumers have to do is look on the product. If it says China on it
then ditch it. Robertson syas. We have a moral obligation here to do what we can to combat Avian Influenza worldwide.
