PicCell Wireless Will Sponsor Efforts to Pass the Global Poverty Act

PicCell Wireless is now the primary sponsor of The Borgen Project's campaign to pass the Global Poverty Act in the U.S. Senate. The Global Poverty Act requires U.S. leaders to "develop and implement a strategy for ending global poverty."

In September, the landmark bill passed in the U.S. House of Representatives. PicCell Wireless executives have been closely monitoring The Borgen Project's progress in moving the bill through congress and earlier this month PicCell Wireless unveiled an ambitious strategy to raise funding for The Borgen Project.

"We're going to do everything we can to get the Global Poverty Act passed," said a spokesperson for PicCell Wireless. "It's not everyday a company has the opportunity to help pass a bill that will make it official U.S. policy to end global poverty."

The bill addresses the plight of the one billion people living on less than $1 a day.

"We're all ecstatic," said Clint Borgen, president of The Borgen Project. "PicCell is an impressive company that's run by people who are passionate about the issues, so it's a great partnership."

Borgen added that the large donation by PicCell Wireless allows the organization to focus its attention on moving the bill through the Senate and not be bogged down by fundraising.

Senator Barack Obama recently introduced the Global Poverty Act in the Senate and Clint Borgen will be on Capitol Hill in January mobilizing Senators to co-sponsor it.
