A Late Surge for PO Ferries to France

A late bookings surge for the August Bank Holiday means carryings at P's38;O Ferries are up on last year, despite the recession, the company reports.

Simon Johnson, sales and marketing director, said: We'sll be a few per cent up on the number of passengers, cars and coaches carried over the Bank Holiday. Our ferries to France (http://www.poferries.com/) from Dover alone will carry close to 140,000 passengers over the weekend.

Mr Johnson explained that the trend all year has been for an unusually high proportion of late ferry bookings (http://www.poferries.com/tourist/bookJourney.html).

He said: As the peak season draws to a close we can be confident that we'sll finish this year slightly ahead. That'ss a considerable achievement in the so-called year of the staycation. We'sve been highlighting the affordability of ferry fares (http://www.poferries.com/tourist/content/pages/template/offers_great_deals_on_ferry_prices_offers_-_great_deals_on_ferry_prices.htm) for self-drive family holidays compared to the cost of flying and the message has clearly got through.
