Single Mom From Oakland Surprises Another With an AllExpense Paid Trip to Disneyland
Tracy Colbert, a
single mother , sat in her living room one day, looked out the window and began to count her blessings. She said she became emotional just thinking about how fortunate she was to have a job and to be able to travel with her daughter. Reliving moments of her daughter'ss favorite vacations, she realized how many children aren'st fortunate enough to travel and have never been to Disneyland. It was at that point that she decided another
single mother should be able to share that same feeling. She and her daughter decided they would forgo their annual trip to Disneyland and instead donate it to another family.
She called up a local Radio Station KMEL and told them she wanted to give away a trip to Disneyland to another
single mother in the Bay Area. At first, the station personnel thought it must be a joke. What did she want in return Nothing, she replied. No strings attached. She just wanted to provide another struggling,
single mother with the chance to visit The Happiest Place on Earth.
Tracy knows and understands the woes of being a single parent and wants to be an inspiration as well as utilize her talents empowering women of color. She is well aware of the social stigma associated with single parenthood and she hopes to encourage a society more empathetic to the needs of
single mother s and their children.
Ms. Colbert is in the process of establishing a non-profit organization, the sole purpose of which will be to provide travel opportunities for low income and disadvantaged children as it is her believe that travel fosters learning, good human relations and bridges the economic gap.
