So Quiet Her Voice Until Now

As a young girl growing up in Taiwan, Singer/Songwriter Tima Montemayor studied piano and Chinese Opera, and dreamed of becoming a singer before immigrating to the United States with her family. The new world was an unfamiliar place for her, and pursuing a music dream seemed out of reach with all the importance placed on things like learning a new language, working hard and succeeding. At the same time, it was on the Southern California beaches where she found solace and her love of writing. She would spend countless hours listening with headphones to her newly discovered love of rock n roll bands, while she wrote words of her thoughts, feelings, dreams, memories and desires. Soon she would see these words as melodies as they evolved into lyrics. But just like a love affair that only she knew, she kept it to herself, seemingly guarding her inner most secrets.

Her musical path continued to elude her, for many years, or perhaps she dodged it as she pursued the more accepted paths of the typical "American Dream". And by the young age of 26, Tima had succeeded in the business world, working in advertising and design, investing in real estate, and even running her own business.

Until one day, she came to a crossroads while helping to take care of her dying father-in-law, an old time drummer and singer. She sat by his side and watched him struggle to sing and tap out beats to no avail. Seeing someone with so much desire to play music and not being able to, while she sat with all the energy in the world, but just not doing it, made her feel incredibly ashamed. She vowed from that day to do what she really loved and to follow a musical path forever.

So she gave it all up. The career, the business, the houses, the security, all the things that she had worked so hard for, and finally began to work on her music and writing again. It all just poured out of her, song after song. Before long, she was working with producer Rick McComas on the tracks that would soon become her full-length debut record, aptly named "Until Now".

"One last glance at the "American Dream" life that I had so methodically planned for myself, ...Without hesitation, I close that door and open a new chapter in my life. So quiet my voice, until now." - Tima Montemayor journal

So on a shoestring budget, but armed with the same drive and determination that served her well in her "other life, Tima has embarked on a cross-country tour promoting her record "Until Now" released June 20, 2005, playing at cafes, coffee shops, small nightclubs, acoustic "live on radio" shows, and "in store" performances at record stores.

So hats off to Tima, and the pursuit of her new, true, "American Dream".
