Larkspur, CA March 3, 2008 -- Gallery Bergelli (www.bergelli.com) presents "Andreas Nottebohm: Raw Metal Paintings". This will be Andreas Nottebohm first solo show at Gallery Bergelli.

"With admirable precision and almost unsurpassed technique Nottebohm describes a subjective reality that the viewer has to read himself into if he does not want to stop short at the admiration of technique." Dr. Schwartz, Kunsthalle (Museum of Modern Art), Hamburg

A native of Germany who has lived in the United States since 1981, Nottebohm continues a long-standing art historical tradition that marries fine art and science in a seamless union. Like da Vinci before him, he draws on interests in geometry and the origins and operation of the universe to craft incredibly detailed artworks that are visually stunning as well as technically sophisticated.

Nottebohm's work is included in the collection of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum as well as Crocker Art Museum and Nevada Museum of Art. Nottebohm's metal works invoke characteristics of sculpture, inviting light and shadow to animate his carefully designed topographies. "Nottebohm's technique of grinding aluminum with a power sander results in holographic spatial effects that tease the eye and challenge the mind", observes Crocker Art Museum curator Scott Shields.
