Commonly Used Beauty Staple To Help Treat Childrens Eczema

For the 10 percent of babies and children suffering from eczema, it is important to find a safe and effective, non-drug treatment to quickly stop the itch-scratch-itch cycle that further aggravates this common skin condition. However, when the itchy, dry, red skin patches appear, it isn'st always easy for a child, most often under the age of five, to ignore the itch.

The millions of babies and young children suffering from eczema should turn to drug-free Albolene Moisturizing Cleanser (http://www.dsehealthcare.com/Pages/v2_albolene_factspage) which is readily available, over-the-counter, and has been clinically proven for the treatment of mild to moderate eczema, says dermatologist David Bank, MD. The Albolene will help trap the moisture, which is a key factor in treating eczema in both children and adults.

Albolene (http://www.dsehealthcare.com/Pages/AlboleneClinicals_Landing) has long been used by mom as a gentle, skin moisturizing, makeup remover, but has a double-duty use for the treatment of mild to moderate eczema. Made with mineral oil, petrolatum, paraffin and ceresin, it provides superior skin moisturization by trapping moisture, especially in areas that are prone to chafing, dryness and irritation.

In addition to applying Albolene to the child'ss skin twice a day, Dr. Bank recommends the following tips to help avoid dry skin and eczema (http://www.dsehealthcare.com/Pages/v2_albolene_eczemapage) flare-ups:

>Avoid hot baths, instead using lukewarm water

>Gently pat the skin dry with a towel, instead of rubbing it

>Replace soap, which can dry out the skin, with an unscented moisturizing bar

>Use cotton clothing and sheets since they are not as abrasive as synthetics

>Wash all clothing and bedding before using them, to eliminate chemicals left behind from the manufacturing process

>Maintain proper moisture in the home by using a humidifier

A new clinical study (http://www.dsehealthcare.com/Pages/v2_albolene_studypage) published in the March 2009 issue of the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, finds that an over-the-counter moisturizer, Albolene's174; Moisturizing Cleanser, is just as efficacious as a leading prescription moisturizer, Mimyx's174; in the reduction of dryness, scaling, itching, redness and peeling related to mild to moderate eczema. And, Albolene costs a fraction of the price and has widespread availability in the drug store.

While the study focused on eczema sufferers 18 and older, Albolene is as safe and effective on children, adds Dr. Bank.
