Fort Washington, PA September 5, 2009 -- When Shiley Carter heard about the first ever Alfred Angelo Wedding Dress Diva contest, she knew she had to enter. This newly engaged bride knew she could get lucky, but also knew she could use her network to catapult her to success, all the while spreading the word about childhood cancers.

The Wedding Dress Diva Contest ran from January 2, 2009 - March 28, 2009. Brides submitted a video showing their inner diva and vied to win a prize package worth over $8,000, including:

>    His and Hers Canon Elph cameras, with underwater cases

>    A crystal tiara fit for the wedding DIVA

Shiley is a nurse at the largest pediatric cancer hospital in the nation, Texas Children'ss Hospital, located in Houston, Texas. It'ss the same hospital, staffed with the same doctors who treated her for the childhood cancer, Pre B Acute Lymphatic Cancer. Shiley was fortunate to make a complete recovery.

For Shiley, her wedding day truly is a dream come true, as she wasn'st sure she'sd make it to see that special day in her life. Shiley says, It'ss amazing to know I'sll have the wedding of my dreams this September, wearing a gorgeous Alfred Angelo gown. As a teenager, I didn'st know if this would be a reality for me. Winning this contest is helping me share my dreams with all the children I work with at the hospital. I strive to be an inspiration to them and a living example that there is life after cancer. I feel that when I try to be the best I can be, and live life to the fullest, I am letting them know to never give up and that dreams do come true. Giving back to them is the gift I get to give everyday.

Asked what was the most memorable part of the contest, Shiley said, During the time of the contest, I would frequently get texts on my phone from my matron of honor.It was usually a forwarded text from people I never met or even heard of, saying how excited they were for me and how addicted they were to watching my numbers rise in the Alfred Angelo Diva contest. They made me feel so good.
