National Holiday Celebrates Relaxation

In April of 2004, relaxation experts at The PajamaGram Company decided to foster stress relief by declaring the day after income taxes are due as National Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day. Since then hundreds of people across the country have traded in their heels, loafers, suits, and skirts to wear slippers, bathrobes, and jammies to work.

Americans are overworked, overscheduled, and for many professionals, tax time is one of the most stressful times of the year, says Irene Steiner vice president of marketing at PajamaGram. We created this holiday in hopes of encouraging Americans to take it down a level for the day and feel comfortable even at work.

According to a 2000 Gallup poll, 80% of workers reported that they are stressed at their jobs and more than 50% of those said they felt they should seek help in dealing with their stress. 25% of employees see their job as the root of the stress in their lives. With statistics as staggering as this it'ss no surprise that companies are trying to combat stress.

The culture at the PajamaGram Company encourages employees to wear their pajamas in board meetings or at their desks. They believe that wearing pajamas at work fosters a more fun and creative environment and helps to relieve stress at the work-place. But they'sre not the only ones with evolving dress codes. Last year on-air personality Colleen O'sNeill from WEOL, got into the spirit of the holiday and put their pjs to work.

I was given the Leopard Print Pajamas- and wore them to work, said O'sNeill from WEOL radio station in Ohio. When I discussed it on air the phones were ringing off the hook with callers who were wishing they were in their pajamas too.

The PajamaGram Company offers over 100 styles of pajamas, robes, slippers, and spa products. Each PajamaGram gift comes complete with gorgeous pajamas, a lavender sachet, a Do Not Disturb sign and a gift card, all delivered in a keepsake organza hatbox.
