If a dear family member had liver cancer, didn'st have insurance, couldn'st qualify for Medicaid, and as a result of a backlog, VA hospital waited too long to get them on the transplant
list, what could possibly be done to save their life.
Kevin Scott has liver cancer and was on the transplant list for one week. Then the VA hospital did another CT scan and found that the tumors in his liver had grown to a level that makes
him ineligible for a transplant in the United States. A gentleman who had a transplant overseas; had tumors the size or larger than Kevin'ss, is doing very well. He has experienced no
problems or complications following his surgery which was done in June 2006.
The problem is raising enough money for the transplant. Fund raisers have raised approximately $12,000, still short of the goal. Maybe Kevin'ss life can still be saved if 100,000 people
would donate just $1!
Kevin found out during a routine examination last year that he had a very small spot on his liver. Diagnosis of that spot was not done in a timely manner and by the time it was, it had
grown to 4 cm. The unfortunate overpopulation of patients at Denver Veterans Administration Hospital makes treatment of patients very slow. It is a hurry up and wait process. Now, the
tumor is 6.6 cm and Kevin is no longer a viable candidate for transplant through VA hospital or in the United States.
Many transplant candidates are turning to China where there is a very successful and reputable program that will perform the surgery. Their organ transplant program is not nearly as
stringent thus enabling candidates to get the organ they need in a timely manner consequently saving their lives. The cost is about one fourth the cost of transplants in the United
States; approximately $125,000 in China compared to $400,000 in the US.
Kevin'ss condition is verifiable by his medical records which will be sent to anyone who requests them. This is not a hoax. Information about Kevin'ss condition is verifiable through
Denver Veteran'ss Hospital, Kristin Arch, Transplant Coordinator, (303) 399-8020 X3437. Copy of diagnosis will be provided upon request.
Kevin wants to live. Right now if nothing is done, he will die within the year.
