Stay Safe this Summer with Tips from Strength for Caring

Strength for Caring, an online resource for family caregivers and baby boomers, is pleased to announce new resources to celebrate National Safety Month.

In the United States alone, 50 million people provide care for a chronically ill, disabled, or aged family member. These people, known as 's8220;family caregivers,'s8221; are often responsible for the well-being and safety of their loved ones.

This June, Strength for Caring helps these caregivers keep their home and family safe.

Fraud, 's8220;phishing,'s8221; and scams are one potential threat for you and your loved ones, and many people forget that taking simple steps can save them from identity fraud and financial scams. Strength for Caring has published many new articles on preventing fraud. (http://www.strengthforcaring.com/daily-care/safety-and-mobility-fraud-protection-and-scam-protection/)

Another threat to safety can be your home. Falls and injuries may be prevented by doing a quick safety-check. Lluminari Founder and Expert Elizabeth Browning explains, 's8220;Statistics clearly show that creating a safe home environment is an important part of health and well-being. For a caregiver, thinking about safety is very important. 's8220;According to the National Safety Council, falls are the leading cause of death from injury among people 65 or over.

Strength for Caring has also published a new section written by physical therapists on back safety, with tips and techniques for safe lifting. Many family caregivers are responsible for lifting a loved one who may be heavier then themselves. The risk of injury to the back, neck, and shoulders can be high.

For those caring for aging parents or children, it can be especially important to prepare for emergencies and disasters. Creating an 's8220;emergency plan's8221; can be helpful.

Charles B. Inlander, author, president of the nonprofit People's8217;s Medical Society, and faculty lecturer at the Yale University School of Medicine, says, 's8220;Have a list of emergency phone numbers posted in several rooms in your house in case you are trapped. Also, write down your own address and phone number, as well as directions to your house or your loved one's8217;s house. Many people forget this simple information when speaking with emergency dispatchers or family members over the phone.'s8221;
