Worldlabel.com Inc, a manufacturer and leading online supplier of laser and inkjet computer printer labels, is pleased and honored to announce that wWorldlabel is supporting the development, manufacturing and distribution of the Creative Commons LiveContent CD. As a member of the ODFalliance.org Worldlabel.com is dedicated to the ODF standard, free community developed software, and content which is freely available to use, remix and share--empowering all creative communities.
LiveContent is a project to connect and expand Creative Commons and open source communities. The first output of LiveContent will package free and open source software (FOSS) with CC-licensed content, including audio, video, image, text and educational resources. LiveContent v1.0 aims to demonstrate an example of an easy-to-use, viable alternative to proprietary software and further explore possibilities of the FOSS and Creative Commons movements within different environments.
The LiveContent CD contains a combination of free and open source productivity and creativity applications such as OpenOffice--a free Microsoft Office alternative -- Inkscape, the Gimp, and Firefox, open document format templates, and samples of Creative Commons-licensed multimedia and educational content from content curators like Jamendo, Blip.tv, Flickr and others.
LiveContent comes with a live-boot Fedora 7 operating system. The Fedora project is a Red Hat-sponsored, community-based open source collaboration that provides the best of next-generation open source technologies. The Fedora 7 operating system boots directly from the LiveContent CD, making use of the open source tools found in the latest Fedora distribution like Revisor, Pungi and more. Fedora 7 can be a vehicle for institutions and corporations to create customized desktops that can fit their individual needs. Corporations can market their products by branding their own CD and distributing a free operating system with free applications and their own appliances included to keep a captive audience.
"This project is very exciting for Worldlabel.com" said Russell Ossendryver, Managing Director of Worldlabel.com Inc. USA. "Not only will LiveContent provide free open source software, but will also enable the liberation of content by enabling users to share, remix and reuse media. It brings open source communities and the Creative Commons' free culture community together, and also shows how a business entity and the FOSS movement can work together for the benefit of everyone. There will be ongoing support for the development and distribution of LiveContent v.2.0 which will focus on the specific needs of different public and educational institutions"
LiveContent CD v1.0 is now available at the Creative Commons and Fedora booths at the 2007 LinuxWorld Conference and Expo in San Francisco.
