Version 9 of AppGate'ss Secure Access Solution introduces enhanced file access with files visible through an AppGate Client file browser window. With Open Solaris a free edition of the AppGate Security Server is offered (AFE) and also support for virtual environments is offered.
With this new version of the Security Server, AppGate (http://www.appgate.com) enables all users to access files regardless of platform and without
installing any client software. Users only have to point their web browser to the AppGate Security Server and log in to the system in order to access remote files. The AppGate Security
Server performs authentication and authorization, and depending on the user'ss role, authentication method, client configuration, etc., the server can make different files available to
its users.
Version 9 is based on Open Solaris which makes it easy to have the AppGate server run in virtual server environments. The AppGate Server can run in a virtual server, be remotely managed
and can in turn control access to other physical and virtual servers. This enables completely new architectures to be built in a secure way.
Open Solaris also makes it possible to release a free version of the AppGate server. AppGates unique concept of Unified Access Solutions bring together all the functions necessary for
secure access control, doing the job of a multitude of point products all in one box. The solution from AppGate Network Security combines an application layer firewall, end-point
security, VPN with built-in roaming for mobile and fixed network usage with policy based access control.
With version 9.0 we have simplified file access and it is possible for a user to access his or her files from any platform in an extremely simple way. In many other products, file access
requires pre-installed software and administrative rights on the platform, says Tomas Olovsson, CTO of AppGate Network Security. He continues with The new free edition of AppGate Security
Server enables potential customers to start using an AppGate system in smaller scale and gradually grow with the system if they like what they see. We believe this is a very interesting
business model.
Designed to protect corporate assets and services, AppGate'ss system provides precise control and full monitoring of user access. Yet performance hasn'st been compromised. The concept
behind the technology actually means that data and applications are more secure with AppGate, and their products are used by a number of Government and defence organisations around the
world.
As always AppGate security servers build on existing proven functionality such as:
> Application Layer Firewall
> Mobile 's38; Fixed VPN
> Granular 's38; Role based Access Control
> End-point Security with device check
