Have You Seen Mambo Lately



We hope you's8217;ve been following the progress of Mambo, the award-winning Open Source Content Management System -- it is a very exciting time for the Mambo community, with a lot of very positive changes in progress.



Version 4.6 's8211; The Best Mambo Yet



Version 4.6 is nearing production release and brings with it a number of notable enhancements and refinements. The team has spent countless hours revamping the core, fixing bugs, increasing security, and adding features. Below are just a few of the new features and enhancements you will see in version 4.6:



* A new Language Manager that makes translating the Mambo core into additional languages a breeze.

* Totally revamped embedded Help Screens for context-sensitive help 's8211; users no longer need to be connected to the Internet to access help files.

* Improved MySQL5 compatibility delivers improves performance.

* A new customizable WYSIWYG editor, MOStlyCE, based on the latest version of TinyMCE 's8211; provides greatly improved editing and content formatting.

* More efficient code generates significantly fewer database calls giving 4.6 better performance over previous versions of Mambo 's8211; and over competing systems.

* Several new variations of the default CSS-based template, which provides a great building block for the creation of custom templates.

* Enhanced security makes 4.6 the most secure Mambo ever.

* A new content module for displaying the most recent content items in their entirety.

* A new comments component so site visitors can add comments to content items.



Version 4.6 is currently in the public consultation phase of RC2. The production release will occur in August of this year.



Welcome Back to Mambo

The Foundation has instituted a series of new initiatives to make Mambo more accessible for 3PDs and pledges to expand support. A new dedicated 3rd Party Developers's8217; Forum is now active 's8211; the Mambo Foundation Developers's8217; Network (MFDN). The site is designed to help us all communicate more effectively and provide neutral ground for discussion of development and technical issues. The Mambo Foundation has reopened public read-only access to its Subversion code repository. Users can browse the code from the web or download it via an SVN client. Full details are found on The Source at http://source.mambo-foundation.org/content/view/60/47/

What Else Has Changed

* The Mambo Foundation has moved hosts to SiteGround and we now have our own dedicated server installation which we control. We have relaunched The Source, Mambo-Foundation.org and MamboLove on the new server.

* The Mambo Foundation has launched an official Foundation forum site for our members and users of the Mambo CMS. The Forum is run and moderated exclusively by the Foundation and the Mambo Steering Committee. Visit the new Forum at: http://forum.mambo-foundation.org

* An all new documentation site will be launched simultaneously with the production release of version 4.6.

* A new Mambo bug tracker has been launched. Visit the tracker at http://tracker.mambo-foundation.org.

* Mambo is still under the GPL and will remain that way. Rumors of Mambo going commercial are false! The Mambo Foundation is 100% dedicated to delivering a solid open source CMS system to the community.

* The first Mambo Board elections were just held. The voting for this new Board was open to all Mambo Foundation members. The new Board of Directors is composed entirely of Active Members of Team Mambo and will take office on August 1, 2006. The governance of the project is now exclusively in the hands of the members.
