Heavyweights go on Record in Nationaly Watched Topeka Kansas City Council Race
March 24, 2005 -- District 3 City Council Candidate Randall P. Bailes is receiving some heavyweight support in his run for City Council. Not only is he backed by two of his former Council Race opponents, Bailes is receiving documented support from sitting and former government leaders as the most qualified candidate to replace current District 3 Councilwoman, Lover Chancler.
Former Candidates, Current District 3 Councilwoman Chancler and Kevin Surbaugh both agree that of the two remaining candidates, Bailes is the person for the job.
Mayor James A. McClinton says, "Randy Bailes is the most qualified candidate to represent District 3 on the City Council. His knowledge and professionalism is best suited for hiring a professional city manager and ensuring the best city government for the citizens of Topeka. I support Randy!"
Councilwoman Lover Chancler feels that Continued forward progress for the District and the City at Large, depends on the type of in-depth experience Randall Bailes brings to the table after 20 years in service to this City and its financial well being. We need a representative in our district who will stand on their own two feet and not be intimidated by the machinery involved in running a city.
Former Mayor and current Kansas State Secretary of Revenue, Joan Wagnon endorses Mr. Bailes saying, "As Mayor from 1997-2001 I worked closely with Randy, and even promoted him to the Financial Administrator position. Two words describe Randy: competence and commitment. If you want a council member who can control spending to keep your taxes low, who can watch out for your interests in the budgeting process and can hit the ground running in this new form of government, then I recommend Randy Bailes."
Bailes and Councilwoman Chancler are scheduled to walk District 3 together this week to meet residents and discuss their concerns.
