Mayor of Baltimore Proclaims August 5th National Gymnastics Day

Baltimore, Maryland July 13, 2006 -- Martin O'sMalley, Mayor of Baltimore City, officially proclaimed August 5th as 's8220;National Gymnastics Day's8221; in Baltimore City. Mayor O'sMalley was petitioned by Niki's8217; Goins on behalf of her daughter Joy and the other members of the Sportsplex Gymnastics team, to recognize this special day. Niki's8217; Goins is the National Gymnastics Day Coordinator for the Sportsplex Booster Club.



National Gymnastics Day honors the efforts of all gymnasts, male and female, and highlights the mental and physical benefits that gymnastics training provides. It also creates an opportunity for gymnastics clubs across the United States to raise money for the Children'ss Miracle Network.'s8221; The Sportsplex Gymnastics Booster Club has set a goal of $5,000 to be raised for the Johns Hopkins Children'ss Center in Baltimore, MD, which is part of the Children'ss Miracle Network.

About the Sportsplex Gymnastics Program

The Sportsplex Gymnastics program is under the direction of Patti Delaney at the Prince George'ss Sport and Learning Complex in Landover, MD. The program consists of 45 athletes, with levels 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 as competitive levels. The level 3 team does not compete. The Sportsplex Gymnastics competitive program started in 2004.
