The City and County of San Francisco and Columbia Telecommunications Corporation (CTC) began a financial and technical feasibility study this week with input meetings involving the
public, educational institutions, and civic organizations. The study will examine the potential to build and operate a communications system to deliver services to public agencies,
educational institutions, community groups, and potentially to all homes and businesses in the City and County using one or more of a variety of strategies including Fiber to the Premises
(FTTP).
's8220;CTC is pleased to assist San Francisco as it examines its options for fiber networking,'s8221; said Joanne Hovis, CTC's8217;s President. 's8220;A San Francisco fiber network has
the potential to be cutting-edge in every way's8212;with respect to technology, application, business plan, and deployment strategy. This project has the potential to provide
state-of-the-art telecommunications services to citizens and simultaneously enhance the status of San Francisco as a business and thought-leader for the world.'s8221;
