EPCIS (Electronic Product Code Information Services) allows for the seamless, secure exchange of data at every point in the lifecycle of goods and services. EPCIS, by providing a standard set of interfaces for EPC data, enables a single way to capture and share information, while still allowing the flexibility for industry and organization-specific implementations. EPCIS supports powerful business cases and consumer benefits such as container tracking, product authentication, promotions management, baggage tracking, electronic proof of delivery, chain of custody, returns management, and operations management.
"The EPCIS standard enables trading partners to securely share product movements in order to improve their supply chain business processes," said Craig Asher, IBM WebSphere Product Manager and EPCglobal EPCIS Software Action Group Co-Chair. "Now trading partners can leverage a certified EPCIS provider of their choice to attain the lower costs and greater revenues available from EPCIS-standard data sharing."
"Business value from RFID depends on trading partners being able to quickly and easily share detailed product movement information in a full business context. The EPCIS standard provides this, and it has been a boon for industry," said Richard Swan, Chief Technical Officer, T3Ci, and EPCglobal EPCIS Software Action Group Co-Chair. "Certified, interoperable implementations of the standard will make it even easier for new EPC participants."
By providing end users with access to reliable information regarding certified products, the certification program helps facilitate and accelerate the start-up phase of EPC/RFID implementations. Now users can focus their resources on completing pilots and capturing information in real business situations rather than on evaluating software components.
"Choosing the right EPC/RFID software for your business can be a challenging process, with many factors to consider," said Chris Adcock, president, EPCglobal Inc. "The EPCglobal Software Certification Program provides companies with the confidence that the software they implement will work in predictable ways as defined by EPCglobal standards. The program protects the company's investment and helps them implement EPC/RFID programs easier, faster, and for less cost."
The certification marks were earned under the EPCglobal Software Certification Program, a standards-based compliance testing program that provides a neutral and authoritative source for testing software to comply with EPCglobal standards and providing information regarding certified products and the vendors who manufacture them. Compliance testing was conducted by MET Labs, a third party, vendor-neutral lab, in Baltimore, Maryland.
