North of England PI Sails Ahead With Better Document Creation Through the SRC WinScribe Digital Dictation Solution

North of England P&I, one of the world's leading marine insurance mutuals, is rolling out the WinScribe digital dictation system to more than 135 users across its offices in Newcastle upon Tyne, Greece, Hong Kong and Singapore. The solution, which is being implemented and supported by SRC, WinScribe's exclusive Platinum partner, is already helping North of England improve document creation times and enabling business critical services, such as surveys and claims reports, to be dictated remotely and instantly delivered to secretaries for rapid transcription and response to ship owners.

The SRC WinScribe solution replaces North of England's analogue system, which was proving restrictive in terms of managing workflow, producing and distributing work to secretaries when authors were out of the office and lost data caused by tape breakages and system malfunctions.

Explaining North of England's reasons for introducing the WinScribe digital dictation system from SRC, Nigel Bradshaw, Head of IT said: "The main reason for adopting the WinScribe digital dictation system was to control and manage the flow of dictations across all our offices. We now have a transparent workflow that makes it possible to share work across all of our offices. We have seen that this helps us improve the services we provide through the elimination of typing backlogs as well as providing major efficiency gains."

Authors use a combination of Philips SpeechMike II devices to record dictations when in the office and Olympus DS4000 devices to produce dictations when out of the office. This is further enhanced by the availability of the WinScribe Blackberry dictation capability. The introduction of speech recognition, which can be seamlessly integrated with the WinScribe solution, is also currently being evaluated by North of England.
