Loctronix NEC Form Alliance to Market Seamless Positioning Systems

Loctronix Corporation's8482;, a provider of unified positioning sensing technology for mobile devices, announced an alliance with NEC Magnus Communications Co., Ltd. to begin marketing of seamless positioning systems. NEC is introducing the Loctronix patented Spectral Compression Positioning 's8482; (SCP) technology to its customers for their efforts in attaining the ubiquitous society throughout Japan.

Backed by the Japanese government, the goal of the ubiquitous society is to seamlessly connect their people with goods and services anytime, anywhere stated Thomas P. Farmer, Loctronix CEO. Loctronix unified positioning technology provides a fundamental component: seamless and accurate positioning both indoors and outdoors.

This capability is needed, Farmer said, to realize Japan'ss goal for a highly integrated mobile information infrastructure. Accurate, real-time location information is critical for applications to provide situationally relevant content and services. For example, pedestrians will be able to point their mobile phones at a building and view a map of what is inside, locate particular stores, or see if their friend has arrived at their favorite meeting place.

Loctronix was recently awarded a patent for its SCP technology by the United States Patent Office. SCP enables highly accurate positioning with a simple, one-chip sensor using various signal sources including GPS (and other GNSS), cellular base stations, and locally deployed beacons. Using multiple sources simultaneously, SCP-enabled devices deliver seamless, meter-level positioning outdoors, indoors or even GNSS obstructed environments.

In explaining the value of the SCP technology to the development of the ubiquitous society, Junichi Harada, Department Manager of Market Exploration, NEC Magnus, stated Until now, it has not been possible to continuously and smoothly obtain positioning information when transitioning between outdoors and indoors because systems were unable to integrate.

We are very pleased to have NEC as a partner in our efforts to commercialize SCP technology. Their extensive expertise in developing A-GPS systems and innovative research into Augmented Reality places them at the forefront in providing key infrastructure solutions for location-based services and applications throughout the world, added Farmer.
