UFreight Drives Inland in China

U-Freight is driving its expansion in China westwards with its first full office in the interior of the country.

The international freight and logistics group has opened a full service office in Chengdu, the capital of the inland Sichuan province, and the company'ss regional hub for the South Western part of China.

In common with much of the freight industry, U-Freight'ss expansion has until now focussed on China'ss eastern seaboard, the Pearl River Delta and the Yangtze river areas.

However, China'ss industrialisation is moving swiftly westwards to inland regions, as wage rates rise in the highly developed eastern coastal regions and shortages of labour and resources emerge. The Chinese Government is also anxious to push industrialisation and employment opportunities into inland areas, and has embarked on a programme to rapidly improve inland transportation links.

Following Government approval, and in line with earlier expansion, U-Freight Chengdu will offer the full range of international export and import services, including air and seafreight, as well as logistics operations. It holds a Class A Licence and is wholly owned by U-Freight Ltd.

Alex Wong has been named manager of the new office. Alex has worked for U-Freight for over 10 years, initially in Hong Kong and subsequently in the company'ss offices in Shanghai, Xiamen and Beijing.

U-Freight'ss Chief Executive Officer, Simon Wong said: China is entering the second phase of its economic and industrial development, and we are anxious to extend to our customers the same breadth and range of services already available in the coastal regions.

We were one of the first foreign forwarders to operate a network of wholly owned offices in China with full legal and operational control and U-Freight Chengdu represents the next phase of our development.

With wide experience of U-Freight'ss network in China, Alex Wong is an excellent choice to lead the new office.

China'ss industrial expansion can be expected to surge further as the full benefits of the country'ss WTO membership are realised,he added.

The U-Freight network already covers all the country'ss main sea and air gateways. Most recently, the company has opened offices in the Pearl River delta area at Dongguan, Foshan, Shunde and Zhongshan.

In China, U-Freight'ss network now extends to multiple facilities in most of the country'ss key trade gateways. The company operates under a number of brands in China including U-Freight China, Shanghai Rijin, Dalian China Express and Shanghai Renaissance - each servicing different trades or types of industry.
