Valencia Port Spain Accredited by Global Institute of Logisticswith...

Spain'ss number one container port, Valenciaport has been honored with a global best-in-class designation following a review of operating standards within global maritime port clusters undertaken by the Global Institute of Logistics.

The accreditation follows a rigorous programme of study undertaken by the Institute'ss research department over the last two years on behalf of its Global Maritime Logistics Council (GMLC). The research considered ports at different levels of cluster maturity and with varied business streams - transhipment, import only, export only, and mixed.

The criteria for the accreditation of leading global port cluster was that the region identified, short-listed and subsequently honored with the accolade, would demonstrate an exceptional level of maturity and demonstrate a culture which indicated that stakeholders in the supply chain truly engaged in a collaborative process.

Research undertaken by the Institute found that Valenciaport'ss cohesive and inclusive nature ensured integration of the whole supply chain in its cluster. This is supported by a Quality Committee, a Quality Guarantee on service levels, and a comprehensive IT portal linking all port stakeholders.

Valenciaport also demonstrated clear leadership, with a top to bottom emphasis on instilling a culture of integration and co-operation throughout the Port Authority and its research arm Fundaci's243;n Valenciaport, and with port stakeholders. The strong links between the port and its city further cement the port'ss cluster success, illustrated by Valenciaport'ss key role in encouraging sporting activities with global importance, such as Formula 1 and the Americas Cup, to stage events in its environs.

A comprehensive position paper available from the Institute of Global Logistics details the findings of the research study at its midway point and the reasoning behind the Valencia best-in-class accreditation.
