Self Storage Owners Get Better Protection with Updated Intrusion Alarms

May 20, 2005 -- Building on established facts that show security features are attractive to self-storage tenants and using the already proven technology of wireless alarms as its foundation, Digitech International introduces DigiGuard² Individual Unit Door Alarms, a new generation of its successful intrusion alarm system that targets the self-storage industry with a solution to one of its biggest problems. "Digitech has specialized in security for self storage for over twenty years. Now, innovative use of existing technology has allowed us to improve the efficiency, power, and usability of this newer generation of transmitters and repeaters to help owners provide specific protection for each unit within the facility," says Jon Loftin, Digitech Vice President. "We took all we learned from a successful first effort and made improvements that make this new generation even easier to implement for both retrofits and new construction."

"The system has been designed specifically to give outstanding response in the all-metal storage environment," continues Loftin. "The system uses a dual-frequency approach that allows us to use the inherent strengths of the frequencies, one for the transmitter and the other for the repeaters. We've been able to increase the operating efficiency and gain extended range right to the limits allowed by the FCC."

Each transmitter has five different alarm schemes, including unauthorized door entry, anti-tamper, battery cover sensor, a magnet defeat sensor, and a built-in shock sensor for an immediate indication of attempted vandalism. Each transmitter and each repeater are defined in the system and report with a series of transmitted heartbeats so the controller can continually sense any problems within the system.

Commenting on the customer appeal, Rick Stumpf, Digitech Sales Manager says, "The fact that each door has an armed alarm makes it hard on thieves and great for owners and tenants. Industry statistics still show that one of the most attractive security systems for customers is a door alarm system. They like to know their personal property is better protected. Many self-storage owners have proved they get a better return by adding the alarm system to their property."

Stumpf continues, "DigiGuard² allows for the entire alarm sensor and transmitter to be installed on the exterior of the unit. We eliminate almost all of the wire pulling and the cost for conduit and labor by going wireless," says Stumpf. "An installer can have these systems installed easily and quickly. It's amazing."

The re-engineered generation of transmitters and receivers will be an option to the current DigiGuard Wireless System. "We were looking for ways to bring the cost down. Now, we can provide a door alarm system at about the same cost of the popular hard-wired systems, and a system that is just as reliable, but with a much quicker installation time, saving time and money," according to Stumpf.

The products have been released for immediate availability. Information on the unit alarm and other specialized systems as well as Reseller opportunities is available at the company's web site, http://www.digitech-intl.com or by calling 800.523.9504.
