Bert-Co, a key manufacturer of folding cartons, released their annual ingenious holiday card, which featured a Green theme. The theme plays off the company'ss Sustainability Campaign. The exquisite card highlights Bert-Co'ss latest innovative capabilities and was produced in-house at the Los Angeles facility, with the assistance of several area vendors.
As a paperboard package printer, Bert-Co felt that it is best represented by a tree, not only because trees are the base from which they draw raw materials, but also because they are one
of the most renewable and reusable resources.
Bert-Co'ss top three structural designers decided on a sustainable piece that was both elegant and practical. The practical gift is a personal portfolio, with a detachable and elegant
pop-up ornament inside. The three-dimensional tree has six detachable seed paper doves that can be peeled off and planted. With the provided hook, the remaining tree becomes a holiday
ornament. The portfolio can be fitted with a writing pad and personal pen.
The portfolio cover is embossed with dozens of leaves that have a soft-touch coating (one of Bert-Co'ss most popular coatings), with touches of gold foil stamp all around. The center tree
trunk in the design features a tipped-on sheer wood veneer. The pop-up tree revealed inside was printed using a four-color process and spot silkscreen UV coating. The graphic design is by
Department of Graphic Sciences, a Los Angeles design firm.
The paper wrap for the portfolio is from Monadnock, a sustainable paper mill that is 100% powered by wind and water. FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Certified paper was also used for the
remaining paper pieces, including the envelopes, card, and tray that holds the portfolio.
Bert-Co maintains their commitment to sustainability through the principles and practices of environmental responsibility. The company continually seeks process-improvement methods and
reviews materials that will reduce resource consumption. Bert-Co'ss standard inks are environmentally friendly Agri-oil or vegetable based inks. The company has also installed a water
filtration system that saves on energy and labor costs. In addition, Bert-Co chooses to work with vendors that have the same commitment to sustainability.
Bert-Co is FSC Chain-of-Custody certified and is able to put the FSC logo on clients's packaging if they choose Forest Stewardship Council certified paper.
Bert-Co creates structural designs and produces a wide range of custom printed products, including packaging and point-of-purchase materials. Bert-Co, best known for expert consultation
and fast turnaround times, has full-service plants in Los Angeles, California and Pulaski, Tennessee. Both facilities are ISO 9001:2000 and FSC certified.
