Flowerpetal.com has taken an industry-leading position by offsetting not only its own operations, but also all shipping involved in delivering flowers to its customers. Flowerpetal.com was the world's first florist to offer Carbonfree flower delivery (http://www.flowerpetal.com/index.jspinfo=9) one year ago.

"It seems that our carbon footprint is a way we can personalize and look from within on doing our individual part to reduce greenhouse gases and avert the continuation of global warming. Carbonfund.org (www.carbonfund.org) used its Carbonfree Shipping application, which was developed jointly with Carnegie Mellon University's Green Design Institute, to calculate the impact of the shipment and delivery of flowers and then helped flowerpetal.com offset the resulting CO2.

"Unlike many other products, flowers spend most of their existence helping the environment, however, that doesn't mean we can ignore that so much of our product has to be flown in daily from South America," stated Brian Crummy, president of flowerpetal.com. "We're taking a good thing and trying to make it better."
