New Zealand Women Want Equal Fighting Exposure
May 16, 2005 -- The biggest competition for men in New Zealand fighting is "Battle of the Anzac's" or K1, and the women of Mania do not see why they shouldnt have the same deal.
On may 21st the fighters of Mania are taking on some of New Zealand's top female fighters. If they manage a reasonable success rate they plan to advance to the next stage of their plan.
That would be to bring over the best they can get from there neighbouring country Australia. Mandy Stewart who has faught on the American "Hook and shoot reveloution" has already agreed, and it is hoped that others will sign on when they hear it is happening.
Mania are soon to release their own DVD and it is hoped this will allow other fighters to see how they fight and consider the trip "Down under"
One of the problems with staging women's fight events in New Zealand has been sponsorship, as women's fighting sports have been considered a niche marget till now. It has meant Mania have been fighting a huge battle to get sponsors interested.
But with their next shows being aired by TV3 and the promise of bigger things to come, they feel they have finally broken the barriers and there are some big companies looking at signing on to support the women of Mania in the near future.
As their event manager "I really take my hat of to our girls" they have stuck in there and pushed really hard for the oppertunities that are now presenting themselves.
The top fighters of Mania have faught at events like "Fight for life" and "The big day out" which are two of the biggest events here in New Zealand. They have made themselves available for any event or interview I have asked them to go to, and it is now time to reep the rewards with the Television networks and top fight promoters now prepared to give us a shot.
If you are a fight fan, you"ll be seeing more of these girls soon. So watch for them and support their bid to advance the sport of "Women who fight".
