On IN SHORT ORDER, Thursday, June 15th at 9:00PM EST, Sue Vogan will be speaking with Cynthia Bowker, mother of three-year-old Devin Michael Bowker. Devin has been diagnosed with HSV Encephalitis with Cerebral Palsy, HEMI Spasticity, Clinical Epilepsy, and Severe Reflux disease.

Devin'ss Story:
Devin was a 36-wk, normal pregnancy preemie. At 2 weeks, he contracted herpes; encephalitis followed within days. No history that Devin should have contracted these maladies. In and out of ICU, he was left with a severe global delay mentally and physically. He cannot use his right hand at all, cannot walk or talk, and gets frustrated easily because he wants to do things children of his age enjoy.

The doctors explained the most horrible worst-case scenario -- blind, deaf and retarded if he even survived. His MRI showed 25% of his brain matter was damaged. At three years old, his EEG was pretty normal.

Now the doctors are putting him in a wheelchair. I feel they have given up on him. I cannot, says Cynthia Bowker. Devin has taught me a lot about life and unconditional love. I wouldn'st trade this little wide-eyed, innocent soul for anything. He is the happiest guy I know.

Devin is in need of a gait walker (like the one he successfully uses at daycare) and physician-ordered HBOT treatments.
