New Free Internet Radio Program Unveiled During Arthritis Awareness Month

May 3, 2005 -- As part of National Arthritis Awareness Month in May, ArthritisCentral.com announces the first free Internet radio program dealing with arthritis and osteoporosis called Arthritis Central News and Views. Dr. Joel Rutstein, Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas and director of one of the largest arthritis centers in the US, is host of the show, delivered in a new medium called Podcasting.

"The program is designed to bring patients up-to-date on news events occurring each week that pertain to the various rheumatic diseases," Dr. Rutstein points out.

Patients can simply visit the ArthritisCentral.com website and click on the Podcast program that interests them. The program, which is free for all website visitors, is available in the popular MP3 format which can be played on a computer or portable music device such as an iPod.

Dr. Rutstein emphasizes that the twenty to thirty minute radio program gives him an opportunity to expand on the very limited sound bytes that are commonly offered on network television and radio. He also includes his own personal commentary based on his perspective from 27 years of clinical practice in rheumatology.

Podcasting on the Internet has enabled Dr. Rutstein to broadcast these programs free to patients worldwide without having to deal with the expense and administrative hassles of traditional radio.

With the recent controversies surrounding the arthritis medications Vioxx, Bextra, and Celebrex, Arthritis Central News and Views has been covering the latest developments each week and keeping patients informed about the FDA's actions. Dr. Rutstein also offers alternative treatment options for the management of pain besides the COX-2 inhibitors, which have the potential for cardio-vascular side effects.

"Having the ability to communicate with patients via Internet radio, enables me to empower patients to take back control of their arthritis, which is one of our goals of ArthritisCentral.com" notes Dr. Rutstein.
