US Ambassador to Morocco Works With Gateway Medical Alliance GMA in Earthquake Rebuilding Efforts

On July 12, 2005 United States Ambassador Thomas Riley and his wife, Nancy, spent the morning working side by side with Gateway Medical Alliance volunteers in their effort to rebuilt homes destroyed by the February, 2004 earthquake which effected the Al Hoceima area of northern Morocco.

According to an article in The Moroccan Sahara (7/22/05) Ambassador and Mrs. Riley worked for several hours placing concrete blocks on the foundation of a home being built for a Moroccan mother and her six children in the Tiziash neighborhood near Ait Zakri.

Gateway Medical Alliance plans to complete 200 homes partially constructed by the Moroccan government in the Ait Zakri region. The 6.5 magnitude earthquake killed more than 600 people, destroyed 12,000 homes and rendered more than 50,000 people homeless.

Gateway Medical Alliance, which only recently began community development work, is a medical relief organization serving Morocco exclusively.
