Document Management and Information Organization Specialists Join Forces

Altimate Systems Inc, Canada's leading provider of internet-based enterprise content management, electronic record management and document management solutions, announced today a strategic partnership with Greyhead Associates, developer of the Taxonomer Knowledge Centre application for small and medium-size enterprises.

Altimate President and CEO, Ren Wang, says that the partnership is a logical step in the evolution of Altimate's world-class document management system, OpenEDMS. "Content management increasingly involves the organization of information to create knowledge," he says, "where so much of the information resides in desktop or laptop computers."

The Taxonomer system, explains Greyhead's Principal, Dr Gordon Atherley, is a desktop application for organizing unstructured information according to structures designed by information managers. "These days, says Wang, "most managers and professionals are information managers." They need not only to organize their own information, but also to make their work available as packages of knowledge for their colleagues to use, he adds. "They publish to the enterprise's intranet or to the web," says Atherley. "And OpenEDMS will become the host for the knowledge centres they create with Taxonomer."

Right now, for example, says Wang, governments, healthcare systems, and corporations are planning for the possibility of pandemic. "The flow of government directives, emergency plans, best practices, and scientific and medical reports is growing by the day," he says.

Atherley, a physician by training, adds that everyone with responsibility that involves emergency planning 8212;and not just physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other front-line healthcare personnel 8212;needs pandemic-related information organized and structured into knowledge that they can access reliably and quickly. Then they can be confident of their ability to always be up to date on what they need to know. "That's why the combination of OpenEDMS and Taxonomer is so important for any organization of any size likely to be affected by a pandemic," says Atherley.
