The Molecular Diagnostics Market Continues to Boom with Sales Increasing Constantly by 20 Per Year Reaching $1.4 Billion in 2003

Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c27771) has announced the addition of Molecular Diagnostics - An In-Depth Survey of the US Molecular Diagnostic Laboratories By Enterprise Analysis Corporation to their offering.

The Molecular Diagnostics market is the fastest growing segment in the In Vitro Diagnostics (IVD) Industry. In recent years, annual sales growth has consistently exceeded 20% per annum. Worldwide sales of molecular diagnostic products to clinical laboratories approached $1.4 billion in 2003.

Report contains detailed information on the following topics:
Market share by manufacturer, Testing volumes and growth by test, Market drivers, Competitors, Types of tests performed in molecular diagnostic labs, Methods of testing used by test type, Recent and planned test menu expansion, Use of home brew and Analyte Specific Reagents (ASRs), Laboratory demographics, Type of instrumentation used

We conducted a survey of US molecular diagnostic laboratories in 2003 in order to understand and explore trends in molecular diagnostic laboratories. The report covers four areas of discipline where molecular diagnostic methods are used: infectious diseases, inherited genetic diseases, coagulation & hematological disorders and cancer.

Data indicates continued strong growth in the utilization of molecular diagnostic testing. Among the laboratories surveyed, the research reveals a 14% increase in overall testing volume for 2002 and a 19% increase for 2003. Infectious disease tests represent 78% of all molecular diagnostic tests performed in the laboratories surveyed. Tests for Inherited genetic diseases come in second, representing 15% of the total test volume while coagulation & hematology disorders along with cancer assays account for the balance.

We also found that molecular diagnostic laboratories offer an average of 14 different assays to their clients. A significant portion, 76% of respondents said they have added new tests to their menus in the past 12 months and 83% plan to add new tests in the coming 12 months. "Home brew" methods are still widely used with 85% reporting at least one assay performed using a home brew method.
At the same time, the use of ASRs is growing with 41% of laboratories surveyed now using them.
