Empty Your Bladder First Before Taking A Long Trip - Prostatitis Foundation
With many people about to embark on their annual Christmas vacations this year, the Prostatitis Foundation issued a simple but important health warning to men: make sure to empty your bladder first before taking a long car or plane trip.
Holding onto urine for too long is may lead to an attack or prostatitis, explained Peter Cambridge, Prostatitis Foundation spokesman. He also listed lifting or straining with a full bladder as possible causes of prostatitis.
Such high pressure situations force urine into the tubes and ducts of the prostate, which causes severe irritation and makes the prostate more susceptible to infection, said Cambridge. Obstruction from strictures (narrowing of the urethra) or having a tiny opening at the tip of the penis (meatal stenosis) also exert high pressure on the prostate.
Cambridge explained that, on the scientific level, the causes of prostatitis are not completely understood and that even the most highly-regarded experts have been known to disagree. Overall, the Prostatitis Foundation identifies three main schools of thought about the causes of prostatitis. These are (1)bacterial infection,(2)auto-immune response or disordered immune response and(3)neuromuscular tension or physical injury problems.
Other additional causes include uric acid disorders, prostate stones, urethral strictures, a rare tumor, prostate cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH, a non-cancerous growth of the prostate), food allergies, yeast infestations, specific yeast problems form the Genus Candida, or a virus.
