Arundel House of Hope and Mavenspire have recently come together to provide much needed technology solutions to the county's homeless.
"One of the main issues the homeless face in finding jobs, and reintegrating into independent living, is that they have no permanent address or phone number at which they can connect with
potential employers. Arundel House of Hope provides an address for the homeless through its Resource and Day Center in Glen Burnie, Maryland, and now Mavenspire will provide
individualized voice mailboxes in which men and women seeking to gain employment can be reached" said Mary Alexander, Director of Development for Arundel House of Hope.
Jessica Tanenhaus cites Digium's open source Asterisk system as one of the reasons Mavenspire is able to offer this service to the House of Hope. "Open source allows us to do something
positive for our community now, without requiring us to be a huge company with massive resources. Without the Digium Asterisk technology, I doubt a company our size would even consider
that we would be able to make much of a difference." Open source refers to any program whose source code is made available for use or modification as users or other developers see fit.
Open source software is usually developed as a public collaboration and made freely available.
The arrangement will consist of 40 voice mailboxes and will fully launch on September 21, 2007.
