Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c33621) has announced the addition of Pipeline and Commercial Perspectives: Insomnia to their offering
Until recently, the insomnia market has been dominated by Ambien, Sonata, and Imovane, and the older hypnotics such as benzodiazepines. However, the global insomnia market is set to grow from $3.7 billion in 2005 to $5.5 billion by 2014 (CAGR, 5.6% 200514), driven
primarily by the launch and up-take of Lunesta, Rozerem and Ambien CR as well as pipeline drugs from
2006 onwards.
Scope of this title:
- Overview of current market including profiles of key brands and key events impacting each brand during 2004-2005
- Assessment of current and future opportunities and threats in the insomnia market in the US, EU and Japanese pharmaceutical markets
- Examination of the hypnotics pipeline with in-depth clinical and commercial profiles of late-stage candidates, with We and KOL opinions
- In-depth discussion of assumptions and events used in forecast analysis
Highlights of this title:
Ambien with US revenues of $2 billion in 2004 faces competition from recently launched hypnotics, and will experience genericization from 2006. Sanofi-Aventis launched Ambien CR in the US
during October 2005, although this report forecasts that the Ambien franchise will decline from 2006 onwards to approximately half the value it is today by 2014.
By 2014, prospective players can expect to face stiff competition from numerous generics, worth nearly $800m, as well as a number of non-GABA A, non-scheduled hypnotics with revenues topping $700m. In such a crowded market, innovation is
key and product differentiation, demonstration of cost-effectiveness and niche strategies are essential.
The transient insomnia market is severely under served, and presents an ideal niche for manufacturers. If manufacturers can increase the proportion of individuals using prescription
hypnotics at least a few nights a month, to the level of those who use them at least a few times a week, usage of prescription hypnotics could increase by 50%.
Reasons to order your copy:
- Understand the challenge faced by established hypnotics by the emergence
of generic competition
- Develop strategies to grow the value of niche patient groups, such as the transient insomnia market
- Benchmark recently launched and pipeline hypnotics against Ambien and assess their future market potential
