FLAVORx Veterinary System Featured on Good Morning America

On Monday September 4th, 2006, ABC's8217;s viewer-favorite 's8220;Good Morning America's8221; welcomed Dr. Marty Becker, DVM and 's8220;America's8217;s best loved family doctor for pets,'s8221; to speak on the best tips to help pets take their medicine. The featured products and techniques included the FLAVORx Veterinary System- a method that allows pills and capsules to be converted to liquid and easily flavored in pet-friendly choices flavors such as Crispy Bacon, Salmon Steak and Scrumptious Peanut Butter.

Studies have shown that only 10% of cat owners and 30% of dog owners can successfully medicate their pets, and even then, these figures do little to describe the hours of chasing, scratched arms and legs, and spit-out pills that most owners must endure. According to Becker, 's8220;A lot of prescriptions sent home by the veterinarian end up in the cupboard, rather than in the pet's8230; and medication battles (cats under the bed prying dogs's8217; mouths open) can have a negative emotional impact on the pet and the Bond we share with them as well.'s8221; Unfortunately, if pets are unable to take medications properly their recovery is hindered significantly, which leads to persistent symptoms and conditions- something that neither pet owner nor pet wants to suffer through again.

To encourage 's8220;putting the 's8216;treat's8217; back in 's8216;treatment's8217;,'s8221; Becker highlights products such as Flavor-Doh®, Pill Pockets® and chewable tablets, however notes that with FLAVORx, 's8220;liquid flavored medications- that's8217;s the hot thing.'s8221; By converting pills and capsules to liquids, owners not only avoid struggle but also the dangers that can occur when pills and capsules become lodged in pets's8217; throats. Because the medication is catered to an animals's8217; taste and the volumes are extremely small, many pets will accept the flavored medication right off the spoon, and others will accept it readily from dispensing syringes. Popular flavors for dogs include Red Angus Beef and Chicken Potpie, and cats love flavors such as Crispy Bacon and Salmon Steak. Regarding less mainstream pets, ferrets and gerbils prefer Bubblegum and Grape, reptiles and rodents go for Mom's8217;s Banana Bread and horses tend to like flavors such as Gooey Molasses and Tangy Apple.
